Clark County Emissions Testing — What Las Vegas Drivers Need to Know
Nevada law requires most vehicles registered in Clark County to pass an annual emissions test before registration can be renewed or ownership transferred. This requirement has been in effect for decades — and Smog Busters has been helping Las Vegas drivers comply with it since day one in 1988.
The test — commonly called a smog check — measures your vehicle’s exhaust output against Nevada state standards. Results are submitted directly to the Nevada DMV by Smog Busters, so everything is official and legally valid the moment you leave our lot.
Vehicles Required to Test in Clark County:
- Gas-powered vehicles model year 1968 or newer
- Most gasoline-powered vehicles under 8,500 lbs
- Diesel vehicles under 14,000 lbs — Sahara & Atlantic location only
- Motorcycles and scooters with engines over 150cc
- Vehicles being registered in Nevada for the first time
Vehicles Exempt from Testing:
- Vehicles model year 1967 and older
- Electric vehicles (EVs) and ZEV-registered hybrids
- Vehicles over 8,500 lbs GVW
- New vehicles in their first registration year
- Vehicles registered outside Clark County (in most cases)
Not sure if your vehicle qualifies? Just drive in — our technicians will check before any testing begins.
