An emissions test — also called a smog check or smog inspection — measures how much pollution your vehicle's engine produces. In Clark County, Nevada, most registered vehicles are required to pass an emissions test before registration can be renewed or ownership transferred. The test checks your vehicle's exhaust output against Nevada state standards and generates a Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) confirming a pass or fail. Most gas-powered vehicles registered in Clark County from model year 1968 and newer require an emissions test. Diesel vehicles under 14,000 lbs are also required to test. Testing is typically required at registration renewal or when transferring ownership.
Smog checks at Smog Busters start at $26. Coupons are available on our coupons page, and we honor local competitor coupons up to $5 off. Seniors, military, and first responders receive an additional $3 discount — stackable for up to $6 total off.
Yes. Most Smog Busters locations offer full DMV services including registration renewal right alongside emissions testing. After passing your smog check, we can process your renewal on-site. Registration tags are mailed to you by the DMV within 7–10 business days. Expedited 2-day and 4-day options are available for a nominal fee.
If your vehicle fails, your technician will explain the results and what repairs are needed. Smog Busters offers smog repair services at select locations. Our 2G Gold Shield certified locations can also help qualifying vehicles access the Nevada state-sponsored Smog Free Clark County program — up to $975 in repair assistance for eligible vehicles model year 1968–2006.
