What is a Nevada DMV transaction fee?

Nevada sets fees for each type of work, such as registration, title, plate, or movement permit service.

The base registration fee for a passenger car is $33. Truck fees may change with the truck’s weight. A motorcycle has a $33 base fee plus a $6 safety fee. Nevada uses another fee table for trailers.

As of August 2026, Nevada DMV lists a $28.25 fee for a first Nevada title. Other charges may apply to the title case. Fees can change, so check the itemized total during your visit.

State fees are due when Smog Busters submits an eligible transaction. They are separate from the Smog Busters service fee.

Why can vehicle registration cost more than $33?

The $33 charge is the passenger car base fee. Nevada also works out tax from the vehicle’s original list price, or MSRP, and its age. The taxable value drops as a vehicle gets older.

Clark County may add Supplemental Governmental Services Tax. These other details can change the price:

• Vehicle type and weight.
• Original vehicle price and age.
• Clark County registration taxes.
• Special license plate choice.
• Late renewal.
• A first Nevada title or other added task.

What title fees may apply?

A title proves who owns the vehicle. A transfer, duplicate title, or first Nevada title has a state fee. Lien changes and added papers may affect the total.

What plate fees may apply?

Standard plates and special plates have different prices. A personalized or specialty plate may add a first charge and an annual fee.

When does Nevada add late fees?

Nevada registration ends on the date in the state record. A late renewal may add a fee and tax penalty. Nevada has no general grace period for driving with expired registration. You may need a movement permit until the renewal is done.

What fees can follow an insurance lapse?

Nevada checks insurance by computer. A break in coverage can suspend the registration and lead to a reinstatement fee. The price depends on how long the lapse lasted and whether you had past lapses.

Is the smog test part of the DMV fee?

Many vehicles in Clark County need a smog test each year before renewal. The test price is separate from the DMV fees and taxes.

A private DMV provider may charge a fee for its own work. You still pay the Nevada fees and taxes.

Smog Busters accepts cash, cards, and Tap to Pay. You can use them for the Smog Busters service fee and the Nevada DMV fees due with your transaction.

You may pay Nevada DMV fees by check. Make the check payable to the Nevada DMV. That check cannot pay the Smog Busters service fee.

Wait until staff reviews the work before writing the check amount. Taxes, late fees, plate costs, and other state charges may change the total. A check for the wrong amount can delay the case.

If you pay the state fees by check, bring cash, a card, or Tap to Pay for the Smog Busters service fee. This keeps the two parts of the bill clear.

How should you review the total before paying?

Ask staff to separate the Nevada charges from the Smog Busters service fee. Your bill may include:

• A state registration, title, plate, or permit fee.
• Governmental Services Tax and Clark County tax.
• A late fee, insurance penalty, or old balance.
• A plate, title, or other document charge.
• The Smog Busters service fee.

You may not have every charge on this list. A simple renewal will have a different bill than a title transfer with new plates.

Check the name, VIN, type of work, and due date before you pay. A wrong vehicle record or missed late fee can change the price. Ask about any line that is not clear.

What can Smog Busters process?

Smog Busters helps with many standard Nevada vehicle services. These include registration renewal, standard title transfer, duplicate title help, plate paperwork, handicap placard paperwork, and temporary movement permits.

We also handle eligible New Vehicle Registration and Out-of-State Vehicle Registration.

The final state amount depends on the case. Smog Busters does not set Nevada DMV taxes or state fees.

Salvage and rebuilt title work is offered only at our East Sahara location. After the state finishes a title case, Nevada DMV mails the physical title to you. It can take about six weeks to arrive.

Smog Busters does not issue driver licenses, ID cards, or Real ID cards. We do not offer written or driving tests.
