What Nevada Emissions Testing Is and Why It Is Required

Emissions testing in Nevada checks whether a vehicle’s exhaust output falls within the limits set by the state for Clark County vehicles. It is the same process commonly called a smog check. Many vehicles registered in Clark County must pass this test before their registration can be renewed each cycle.

The test measures the pollutants coming from your vehicle’s exhaust. Clark County adopted these standards to help maintain air quality across the Las Vegas Valley. Your registration renewal notice or the Nevada DMV website will indicate whether your specific vehicle must test this cycle. If you are unsure, call (702) 436-5346 and we can help confirm.

New to Nevada? If you recently moved to Clark County from another state, your vehicle may need to be tested before your Nevada registration is issued. Bring your out-of-state title and any existing registration paperwork when you come in.

How the Test Works at the Decatur and Cactus Station

The process is quick. Pull up at the Speedee Mart on Decatur at the Cactus intersection. Stay in your vehicle while the test runs. Most emissions tests at this station are done in under 15 minutes from start to finish. When the test is complete, you receive the result on the spot.

If your vehicle passes, the result is submitted electronically to the Nevada DMV. There is no certificate to carry with you and no form to mail. If your registration renewal is also due, it can often be processed here in the same visit when your renewal paperwork is ready.
