Lost or Damaged Plates?
We Handle the Paperwork.
Need a license plate replacement in Nevada? Plates get stolen off the bumper. They bend in a parking lot scrape. They fade in the desert sun until the numbers barely read. Whatever happened to yours, you don’t have to spend an afternoon at the DMV to replace them. Walk into any of our 32 huts for fast license plate replacement in Nevada, we file the paperwork in a few minutes, and your new plates come back to the same hut in about 7 to 10 business days. We call you when they’re ready.
License Plate Replacement Nevada: What You Need to Know

Nevada law requires your plates to be clean, legible, and firmly attached to both the front and rear of your vehicle. If your plates are lost, stolen, or too beat up to read, you need a license plate replacement in Nevada before you get cited. Driving on missing or illegible plates is a ticket waiting to happen.
The Nevada DMV handles plate replacements in person at a DMV office. That usually means a half-day at Flamingo, Sahara, or Decatur. At Smog Busters we’re an authorized third-party DMV services provider for plate replacements, so you can file the same paperwork at any of our 32 huts in about 10 minutes. No DMV line, no appointment, no wasted afternoon.
After we submit the paperwork, the DMV prints and ships the new plates back to the same hut where you filed. That’s usually 7 to 10 business days. We call you when they’re ready for pickup.
When to Replace Your Nevada License Plates
- Stolen. File a police report first, then bring the report number to us. The DMV requires a stolen-plate affidavit and we help you fill it out.
- Lost. Fell off in a windstorm, came loose on the freeway, or simply vanished. No police report needed for a plain lost plate, just the affidavit.
- Damaged. Bent, dented, scraped, or cracked after a parking-lot hit or fender bender. Bring the damaged plate in with you.
- Faded or illegible. Nevada sun is brutal on plate finishes. If the sticker or numbers aren’t readable from a normal distance, replace them before you get cited.
- Peeling or rusted. Older plates can lose their reflective coating. Same fix: replace them before an officer calls it out.
- One plate only. If you lost just one plate, Nevada still issues a full set of new matching plates. You can’t keep one and replace the other.
What to Bring for License Plate Replacement in Nevada
Before you head over, gather these. The Nevada DMV rejects altered or illegible documents, so originals only.
- Your Nevada registration. Current or recently expired is fine. If you don’t have it, we can look you up by VIN.
- Nevada driver’s license or state ID. Photo ID required for the affidavit.
- The damaged plate, if you still have it. Bent, cracked, faded, bring whatever is left. We surrender the old plate with the paperwork.
- Police report number (stolen plates only). File the report first, then come see us with the case number.
- Payment. Nevada DMV plate replacement fee plus our service fee. Call us for a current quote.
How It Works at the Hut

Pull up to any Smog Busters hut during business hours. Here’s the flow:
- Paperwork (about 10 minutes). We fill out the Nevada plate replacement affidavit with you, verify your registration, and collect the DMV fee and our service fee.
- Surrender the old plate (if you have it). The old plate goes to the DMV with the paperwork.
- Receipt. You leave with a receipt and a reference number. The DMV processes the order in their system.
- Pickup (about 7 to 10 business days later). Your new Nevada plates come back to the same hut. We call you when they arrive.
Stolen Plates: Extra Step
Stolen plates are a slightly different path. Before you come to us, file a police report with Las Vegas Metro, Henderson PD, or North Las Vegas PD depending on where the theft happened. You’ll leave the report with a case number.
Bring that case number to us along with your ID and registration. We complete the stolen-plate affidavit with the case number attached. The DMV flags the old plate numbers so they can’t be re-used, then issues you new plates with new numbers. Turnaround is the same 7 to 10 business days.

Walk in any day we’re open. No appointment needed. Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm.
