The Short Answer
Flamingo & Sandhill runs a $19.99* Manager's Special on light-duty gasoline smog checks. No appointment required. It won't stack with other discounts. It doesn't cover registration renewal or DMV fees. See the breakdown below before you head in.
$19.99* Manager's Special at Flamingo & Sandhill
Comparing smog check prices on the east side of Las Vegas? Here’s the number that matters: $19.99*. Our manager set that rate for light-duty gasoline vehicles at Flamingo & Sandhill. It’s a walk-up rate, not a scheduled discount. The price you see is the price waiting for you when you arrive.
Before you compare that price with another offer, check what each one covers. A smog check and a registration renewal are separate charges, even when you handle both in one stop. A coupon may also have limits on which vehicles or locations qualify.
Why smog check prices differ
Nevada sets the maximum fees that test stations can charge. Each station posts its own prices within those limits. A price you see at one hut may differ from the price at another, including other Smog Busters locations.
Your vehicle’s weight class can matter when you compare posted fees. A gasoline vehicle up to 8,500 pounds falls in the light-duty class. Heavier gasoline vehicles fall in a separate class, and a station may post a different fee for them.
The test method also depends on the vehicle’s year and class. That doesn’t mean an older car gets a surprise surcharge because its test takes longer. Ask which posted fee applies to your vehicle before the tech starts.
Our Nevada smog check cost guide covers the broader price range and state fee limits. Here at Flamingo & Sandhill, the $19.99* Manager’s Special is for light-duty gasoline vehicles only. Heavy-duty vehicles aren’t part of this offer.
How the Manager’s Special works
The offer applies at our East Flamingo hut while the special is active. Extra coupons and discounts don’t apply on top of it. That includes competitor coupon matches and senior, military, or first responder discounts.
If you’ve used one of those discounts at another location, check the terms for this visit. Each offer has its own rules. Review the Flamingo & Sandhill Manager’s Special terms, then confirm the current price with your tech before the test starts.
- Senior, military, and first responder discounts (normally $3 each) and competitor coupon matches (normally up to $5) don’t stack with the Manager’s Special.
- The $19.99* covers the smog check only. If you renew your registration the same visit, DMV fees and our renewal service charge apply at their normal rates.
- This rate is set locally at Flamingo & Sandhill and isn’t guaranteed to last. It can change or end without notice.
For your own budget, compare the amount for the work you need. If you’re only getting a smog check, ask about that test. If you’re renewing too, ask for the renewal charges as a separate amount before we begin that service.
What happens during your smog check
Your tech uses the vehicle identification number, or VIN, to identify the car for the emissions test. We then perform the Nevada test required for its year and class. The special changes the price of the visit; the state testing rules still apply.
Most 1996-and-newer light-duty gasoline vehicles get an OBD II test. The tech connects the test machine to a port under the dash. It reads the emissions data and readiness checks stored in the car’s computer.
Gasoline cars in the light-duty class from 1968 through 1995 get a two-speed tailpipe test. Heavy-duty gasoline vehicles use that method too. The tech measures the exhaust at idle and at the second engine speed required for the test.
Those are different ways to test emissions. Neither is a repair visit or a full check of the car’s condition. At this hut, we perform the test and give you the result.
A stop on East Flamingo
You’ll find us at 3707 E Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89121, between the tire shop and the 7-Eleven. Wells Fargo and Nevada State Bank are across the street. If East Flamingo is already part of your errands, you can include your smog check in the same trip.
We’re open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. We’re closed Sunday. The Flamingo & Sandhill smog check page has more details for your visit. It covers parking and what to expect when you pull in.
Do You Need a Smog Check This Year?
Before you plan a visit around the special, check whether your vehicle needs a test. Your Nevada DMV renewal notice is a good place to start. If it calls for a smog check, bring the vehicle to the hut before you finish the renewal.
Nevada requires yearly testing for qualifying vehicles in the Las Vegas testing area once any exemption ends. Living on the east side doesn’t create a separate testing cycle. The rules depend on your vehicle’s type and how it’s registered. Those rules decide if you need a test this year.
Why one car needs a test and another doesn’t
Two cars in the same household can have different testing needs. A new vehicle is exempt for its first three registrations. Testing starts with the fourth. Electric vehicles don’t need an emissions test, and hybrids have their own initial exemption.
An older gasoline car may still need its annual test, even if you drive it less than your other car. Low use by itself doesn’t excuse a vehicle from testing. Check the renewal rules for each vehicle. Don’t go by what your neighbor needed.
We test gasoline vehicles at Flamingo & Sandhill. For a diesel vehicle, review our diesel testing service at East Sahara & Atlantic before choosing your stop. Diesel testing isn’t available at this hut.
What to bring for your visit
Bring the vehicle you need tested. For the smog check itself, the tech identifies it from the VIN on the vehicle. You don’t need a stack of maintenance records or proof of last year’s passing test.
If you want to renew your registration at the same visit, bring your renewal notice and proof of Nevada insurance. That paperwork is for the renewal part of the visit. Tell the tech when you arrive that you’d like to get both done.
- Bring the vehicle for the smog check.
- Confirm the current special and the price for your test before it starts.
- Bring your renewal notice and Nevada insurance proof if you’re renewing too.
- Mention any address change before we handle the renewal paperwork.
Keep the smog check and renewal costs separate
Once your vehicle passes, we can handle an eligible registration renewal at the hut. You can skip a separate trip to the DMV. The Manager’s Special is a smog check discount only. DMV fees and our standard renewal service charge are separate.
For example, you might arrive for the test and decide to renew while you’re here. Your total for the visit would then include both services. That larger total doesn’t mean the advertised smog check price changed.
A passing test alone doesn’t renew your registration. You still need to finish the renewal and pay the fees. When we handle that at the hut, the Nevada DMV mails your new sticker to the address on file. Mention a recent move before we submit the paperwork.
What Happens If Your Vehicle Fails?
Passing last year doesn’t guarantee passing this year. We test your vehicle against Nevada’s emissions rules during this visit. If it doesn’t pass, we’ll give you the results so you can take them to a repair shop.
A smog check result is not a repair diagnosis. The result records what happened during the test. A repair shop can use it to investigate the cause and quote any work your vehicle needs.
What the result can tell you
On a tailpipe test, a failed result may show that exhaust levels did not meet the limit. An OBD II vehicle can fail because its check engine light is on. A vehicle may not have completed enough of its computer’s readiness checks. That can lead to a Rejected result.
Failed and Rejected are different results, and neither is a passing test. Keep the printout so the repair shop can see which result you received. A description such as “it didn’t pass smog” leaves out details that are on that report.
If the battery was replaced or codes were cleared, tell the repair shop. Those events can reset the computer’s readiness checks. Erasing a warning light doesn’t repair the cause, and it can leave the vehicle unready for its next test.
Repairs happen at a repair shop
Flamingo & Sandhill is a testing-only station. We don’t perform repairs or diagnostics here. Our tech gives you the test report. A repair shop handles any work needed before the next test.
You choose where to take the vehicle for repairs. Give that shop the results and explain any recent work. Ask for a quote before you agree to repairs. The cost will depend on what the repair shop finds.
The Manager’s Special doesn’t cover repair work. It also isn’t a promise that a vehicle will pass. A repair bill and any charge for another smog check are separate costs to discuss with the shop doing that work.
Coming back for another test
After repairs, follow the repair shop’s guidance on when the vehicle is ready to retest. Some vehicles need to complete their computer’s checks before that visit. Don’t assume a dashboard light going out means the car is ready to pass.
- Keep your test report and give it to the repair shop.
- Have the repair shop explain the findings and any work needed.
- Return when the vehicle is ready, and confirm the retest charge before it starts.
- After a passing test, finish an eligible renewal with us at the hut.
Leave time before your registration deadline. You may need a return visit. You can come back to Flamingo & Sandhill during business hours without an appointment. Bring your renewal paperwork if you’d like us to handle that step after the vehicle passes.
