Families and Cars on East Carey Avenue
A Park and a School Bring Families to East Carey Avenue
Martin Luther King Park is a Clark County park on East Carey Avenue in Sunrise Manor. Kids come for the skate park and the playground, and families spread out on the open grass or eat under the covered picnic areas.
Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School is right beside it, so drop-off and pickup bring even more cars to the same block. For many families here, the park and the school are part of the same daily drive.
Most of those cars need a smog check once a year, and when yours comes due, you don’t have to cross the valley for it. The hut at Las Vegas Boulevard North and Cheyenne is a short drive from the park.
Directions to the Hut
Driving From Martin Luther King Park to Las Vegas Blvd N and Cheyenne
Start eastbound on East Carey Avenue, using familiar businesses and major streets for orientation. Open the directions in Google Maps before leaving the park area.

Head east on East Carey Avenue.
2Continue past the Santiago Estates entrance.
3Pass Lowe’s Home Improvement before Lamb Boulevard.
4Turn north on Lamb Boulevard.
5Turn west on Cheyenne Avenue.
6At Las Vegas Blvd N, make the U-turn.
7Take the first right into the SuperPawn lot and pull up to the Smog Busters hut.
The Santiago Estates and Lowe’s references confirm the eastbound order, while the final U-turn lines you up for the first right into the lot.
Testing and 2G Follow-Up
The Test Comes First, Even With the Check Engine Light On
If your check engine light is on, get the smog check anyway. The Nevada DMV tells drivers not to skip it, and nobody can tell you the result before the test is run.
If the car doesn’t pass, that failed test is what opens the next steps. The Las Vegas Blvd N shop is licensed by the state as a 2G station, so it can find and repair emissions problems as well as test for them. You can have the cause found and fixed at the same place. A failed test is also the first thing you need to apply for a state waiver or for repair help through Smog Free Clark County.
The repair work covers smog-related problems only, so brakes, tires and other mechanical work still go to a full-service shop.
Hours and What to Expect
A Smog Check Fits Between School Drop-Off and Pickup
The hut is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM, so any time between school drop-off and pickup works. Saturday hours are 8 AM to 4 PM, and it’s closed on Sunday. Only gasoline vehicles are tested here, so if you drive a diesel, the E Sahara and Atlantic location is the one that can test it.
No appointment is needed, so just pull in and the technician handles the rest. Most smog checks take 15 minutes or less, though a busy day can add to the wait.
When your car passes, the result is sent to the Nevada DMV electronically. If your registration is due, you can renew it right there on the spot. Left the renewal notice at home? That’s fine, because the shop finds your car by its VIN. The DMV mails your new sticker to the address on file.
