Standard Nevada Title Transfers at This Station

When you buy or sell a vehicle through a private party transaction or a straightforward purchase, the title needs to transfer into the new owner’s name with the Nevada DMV. Standard Nevada title transfer paperwork for straightforward buy-sell situations can be reviewed and submitted on site at the Decatur and Cactus station.

Physical title documents are processed by the Nevada DMV and mailed directly to the customer, typically in approximately six weeks. You do not pick physical title documents up at the hut; they are mailed by the DMV. For a basic Nevada title transfer, insurance is not required just to transfer ownership. If you also need to register the vehicle, then you may need insurance, a smog check, and other registration documents. Call (702) 436-5346 if you are unsure what your situation requires.

What to bring for a standard title transfer: the signed Nevada title from the seller, a bill of sale, and a valid ID. If you are also registering the vehicle in Nevada, bring your insurance card and any other registration paperwork.

When to Call Ahead Before Your Transfer

Standard Nevada title transfer paperwork for straightforward buy-sell situations can be handled on a walk-in basis. However, some situations are more involved and benefit from a quick call first. Salvage and rebuilt title inspections are not handled at this hut. Those inspections are handled only at our East Sahara and Atlantic location. If your paperwork involves salvage, rebuilt, court-ordered documents, unclear ownership, out-of-state title complications, missing paperwork, an estate, or an unreleased lien, call (702) 436-5346 before visiting so Smog Busters can route you correctly.

Reach out to (702) 436-5346 before heading over for any of these other scenarios:

  • Out-of-state title paperwork or unclear Nevada status
  • Titles with lienholders still listed
  • Missing or incomplete title documentation
  • Unclear or disputed ownership
  • Court-ordered title transfers
  • Personalized plate transfers

If the registered owner has passed away or the vehicle involves an estate, court order, or unclear ownership, call our corporate office and speak with an expert for more information before driving over.

Title Transfer and Registration Together

If you need to both transfer the title and register the vehicle in Nevada at the same time, additional documents apply. Bring your current Nevada insurance card, and depending on the vehicle and your county, a smog check may be required before registration can proceed. We can help you figure out the right order at the station.
