What Emissions Testing Measures

Nevada emissions testing measures the pollutants coming out of your vehicle’s exhaust — specifically hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and oxides of nitrogen. For most vehicles made after 1996, the test also reads the OBD-II port, checking readiness status and stored emissions-related fault codes.
The inspection confirms your engine and emissions control equipment (catalytic converter, oxygen sensors, EGR valve, and related systems) are working within limits set by the state. It does not test brakes, tires, or general vehicle safety — those are separate from the emissions requirement.
Clark County requires the inspection as part of annual registration renewal for most registered vehicles. The requirement exists because of the valley’s geography: without it, vehicle exhaust would accumulate in the air basin and push particulate levels well above federal health standards.
Which Vehicles Qualify at This Station
This is a 1G-certified station. That means it handles standard Nevada emissions inspections for gasoline-powered passenger cars, light trucks, SUVs, vans, and qualifying vehicles that require a Nevada emissions inspection.
Not handled here: Diesel vehicles require a 2G-certified station. If you are unsure about your vehicle type, call (702) 436-5346 and we can confirm whether this is the right stop or route you to the correct location.
Common Exempt Categories
Some vehicles do not require an emissions test. Typical exemptions under Nevada law include vehicles that are very new (within the first few model years) and certain older vehicles beyond a specific age threshold. The Nevada DMV and Clark County Air Quality Management Division set and update the exact exemption rules — your registration notice will indicate whether testing is required for your vehicle.
What Happens When You Pull Up

Pull into the Speedee Mart lot at 5673 S Grand Canyon Dr and pull up to the hut. The technician comes out to your window. You stay in your vehicle for the duration of the inspection.
When your vehicle passes, the result goes directly to the Nevada DMV through the state’s electronic reporting system. If your registration is also due, it can be completed in the same visit. Your renewal sticker gets mailed by the Nevada DMV after processing.
If your vehicle does not pass, you’ll receive the test results so you know the next step. Grand Canyon & Russell is a testing-only station — call Smog Busters and we can point you to the right location for diagnosis or repair if needed.
