The School-Day Window
A Smog Check Between Drop-Off and Pickup at Gray Elementary
R. Guild Gray Elementary School is at 2825 S Torrey Pines Dr in Spring Valley. The school lists student hours of 8:55 a.m. to 3:11 p.m., and its Safe Key program runs before and after class, from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The Rainbow & Flamingo hut is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, which covers the whole time class is in session. You can pull up after morning drop-off or before afternoon pickup. If neither works, the hut is also open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., though it’s closed Sunday.
A second vehicle gives you another option. In the census tract around the school, nearly 8 in 10 households have two or more vehicles. If yours is one of them, one car can handle drop-off while the other gets its smog check.
Check Before You Drive
Gasoline and Hybrid Vehicles Only at Rainbow & Flamingo
Before you make the drive, check what your vehicle runs on. The Rainbow & Flamingo hut tests gasoline vehicles and gas-electric hybrids, so a diesel has to be tested somewhere else.
The Nevada DMV licenses this hut as a 1-G station, which means it runs emissions tests but doesn’t do repairs. If a vehicle fails, the hut can’t diagnose the cause or make the repair.
If you’re not sure the hut can test yours, call (702) 221-6447 before you leave the school.
Directions to the Hut
From Gray Elementary to the La Bonita Lot
Most of the drive is a straight run south on Rainbow Boulevard. If you’d rather follow along on your phone, these directions from R. Guild Gray Elementary School to Smog Busters open in Google Maps.

From the school, take Torrey Pines Drive north to Tara Avenue.
2Turn west on Tara Avenue and follow it to Rainbow Boulevard.
3Turn south on Rainbow Boulevard and stay on it past Flamingo Road.
4Watch the east side of Rainbow for La Bonita Supermarket.
5Turn left into the shopping center and follow the lot to the Smog Busters hut, adjacent to Bank of America.
If you’re typing it into a map app, the address is 4252 S Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89103. From the road, look for La Bonita and Bank of America.
Plan for the Line
How Much Time to Leave Before Pickup
You don’t need an appointment for a smog check at Rainbow & Flamingo. Pull up to the hut and a technician will greet you.
Most smog checks are done in 15 minutes or less, but that’s the test itself, and other drivers may be in line ahead of you. If you’re coming before the 3:11 p.m. dismissal, leave yourself extra room, or come after morning drop-off instead, when a line won’t put pickup at risk.
Registration Renewal
Pass the Test, Then Renew at the Same Stop
The smog check always comes first, but if your vehicle passes and your registration is due, the hut can renew it on the spot. You don’t need to bring your renewal notice, since the technician finds your vehicle by its VIN.
You won’t drive away with the sticker, though, because the Nevada DMV mails it to the address it has on file. Still, the test and the renewal are done in one stop, which means one less errand to fit around the school day.
