Smog Repair
Owens & Eastern
Your vehicle failed smog, or your check engine light is on and you know what that means for your upcoming test. Either way, most smog shops on the east side of North Las Vegas can only hand you a failure report and send you somewhere else. The Smog Busters station at Owens & Eastern is different. This is a confirmed 2G location, one of only four in the Smog Busters chain, authorized by the Nevada DMV to perform smog-related diagnostics and smog-related repair. The team can help you understand what is going on and walk you through what options may be available. Hablamos Español.
What a 2G Station Can Do That a 1G Station Cannot
In Nevada, there are two levels of smog station certification. A 1G station is licensed to perform the emissions test only. They test your vehicle, issue a pass or fail report, and that is the end of what they are authorized to do. Most smog shops in the valley, including most Smog Busters locations, are 1G.
A 2G station holds an additional authorization from the Nevada DMV to perform smog-related diagnostics and smog-related repair. That is a meaningful difference when your vehicle has failed smog or your check engine light is on. Instead of walking out with just a failure report, you can have the underlying issue identified at the same location, understand what it means for your smog result, and talk through what repair and waiver options may be available to you.
Owens & Eastern is one of only four 2G locations in the Smog Busters chain. If you are in east North Las Vegas and your vehicle has a smog-related issue, this is the closest location in the network with the authorization to actually help.
Failed Smog Test Near Owens and Eastern?
If your vehicle failed a smog test at another location, bring your Vehicle Inspection Report when you come to Owens & Eastern. That report shows exactly what triggered the failure and gives the team a starting point before diagnostics begin. Do not just bring the car and describe the problem from memory. The paperwork matters.
The tech will review what failed, perform the appropriate diagnostic work, and explain what the results mean for your smog situation. From there, you will know whether a repair path is available, whether the Nevada DMV waiver process is something to look into, or whether there are other options. The goal is to leave with clear information and a defined next step, not just another dead end.
The DMV Waiver Process: What It Is and What It Is Not
When a vehicle cannot pass the Nevada smog test and repair costs are substantial relative to the vehicle’s value, the Nevada DMV waiver process is one option that may be available. A waiver does not mean your vehicle passes smog. It means the DMV may allow registration renewal under specific circumstances without a passing smog result, when certain documentation and cost thresholds are met.
Not every vehicle or situation qualifies. The 2G team at Owens & Eastern can walk you through the waiver process, explain the documentation requirements, and tell you whether your situation appears to meet the criteria. They will not tell you that you are guaranteed a waiver or that the DMV will approve your specific situation. What they will do is give you clear, accurate information so you know what to bring and what to expect.
Gerald Green, a real customer at this location, described exactly this process: the tech explained the 2G certification, walked through the waiver documentation from the Nevada DMV, answered every question, and handled the process with him from start to finish. He was able to renew his registration. His experience reflects the tone you can expect here, informed, patient, and no-pressure.
East North Las Vegas Drivers: This Station Is Already in Your Corridor
A lot of drivers on the east side of North Las Vegas end up making a cross-town trip for smog repair because they do not know there is a 2G station right here on Owens Avenue. If you live or work near Civic Center Drive, the Nellis corridor, Craig & Eastern, Losee Road, Range Road, Simmons Street, or anywhere in the eastern NLV residential grid, you do not need to leave your side of town.
The station sits at the Owens and Eastern intersection, easy reach off US-95 via the eastern corridor, and a short drive from the Jerry Tarkanian area and the neighborhoods along the MLK and Las Vegas Boulevard North corridors. If you are already on that side of town when you get the failure notice, your next stop does not have to be a long drive.

After Repairs Pass: Registration Renewal in the Same Visit
Once your vehicle passes the Nevada smog test after repairs are complete, the result is submitted to the Nevada DMV electronically right away. If you have your renewal notice and paperwork with you, registration renewal can usually be handled in the same stop at Owens & Eastern.
For most drivers, that means the entire process from failed smog to renewed registration happens at one location on E Owens Ave without a separate trip to a DMV office. If you have additional DMV paperwork needs beyond registration renewal, call (702) 436-5346 ahead of time so the team can confirm what to bring.
