Smog Busters is a Nevada DMV authorized service provider. We are licensed and bonded by the State of Nevada to process out-of-state registration transfers and other DMV services.
When you move to Nevada and establish residency, you have 30 days to register your vehicle with the Nevada DMV. Here's what you need:
Total time: 30-45 minutes for most out-of-state transfers
California to Nevada is our most common transfer. California titles transfer smoothly, but remember: Nevada charges Governmental Services Tax based on vehicle value. If you still owe money on your California vehicle, you'll need a lien release or current loan payoff information.
Arizona titles transfer easily to Nevada. Bring your Arizona title and current registration. If your Arizona vehicle didn't require emissions testing, it will likely need testing in Nevada (Clark County requirement).
Utah to Nevada transfers are straightforward. Utah titles are similar to Nevada's. Make sure your title is signed properly and bring proof of Utah registration to help calculate fees.
Texas titles can take slightly longer to process due to Texas's unique title system. Bring your Texas title and registration. Texas doesn't require front license plates - Nevada does, so you'll receive both front and rear plates.
We process transfers from all 50 states. Each state has slightly different title formats, but our experienced team knows the requirements. Bring your out-of-state title, registration, and let us handle the details.
Important: Nevada calculates taxes on the vehicle's fair market value (NADA guides), not what you paid for it. Newer, higher-value vehicles will have higher registration costs than older vehicles.
Most vehicles being registered in Clark County (Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas) require emissions testing:
We perform emissions testing on-site during your registration transfer - no separate appointment or additional visit needed.
Solution: If you still owe money, contact your lender for a lien release letter or current payoff amount. We can process the transfer with the lien, but you'll need lender authorization.
Solution: Request a duplicate title from your previous state's DMV (often 2-4 weeks). Once received, bring it to Smog Busters for Nevada registration.
Solution: All owners listed on the title must be present or provide power of attorney for one person to register the vehicle in Nevada.
Solution: Expired out-of-state registration doesn't prevent Nevada registration. Bring your documents and we'll process your Nevada transfer. You cannot drive with expired registration, so arrange transportation to Smog Busters.
Solution: If your vehicle fails, we provide a detailed report of needed repairs. Get repairs done and return for a free re-test within 30 days. Learn about smog repair.
