Emissions Testing
Blue Diamond & Decatur
Nevada requires an emissions test for many qualifying vehicles before registration renewal in Clark County. You can get that test done at the Smog Busters hut at 5180 Blue Diamond Rd — in The Chicken Shack parking lot at Blue Diamond and Decatur. Standard Nevada emissions testing, walk-in only, most vehicles done in under 15 minutes.
Nevada Emissions Testing at Blue Diamond & Decatur
Emissions testing and smog check are the same state-required inspection in Nevada. Many Clark County vehicles need to pass this test before registration can be renewed. Your renewal notice will tell you if your vehicle is subject to the requirement for your current cycle.
At Blue Diamond & Decatur, your vehicle goes through the standard OBDII test, which reads your vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system and checks that emissions-related components are performing within state standards. For older vehicles that require it, tailpipe testing is also performed.
Does Your Vehicle Need an Emissions Test?
Most passenger vehicles registered in Clark County need an emissions test every two years. If you’re coming in from Mountain’s Edge, Rhodes Ranch, Enterprise, or anywhere along the Blue Diamond corridor, this is the closest Smog Busters hut. Your renewal notice will indicate whether testing is required for your renewal cycle. If you’re unsure, your renewal notice is the best starting point. You can also call (702) 436-5346 and we can help confirm.
Some vehicles are exempt from emissions testing, including:
- New vehicles within their first few years of registration
- Some older vehicles depending on model year
- Electric vehicles
- Certain vehicles based on registration class or use
Check your renewal notice or contact the Nevada DMV to confirm your vehicle’s status before visiting.
What to Bring and What to Expect
Pull up to the hut at 5180 Blue Diamond Rd. The technician comes to your driver-side window. Drive your vehicle for at least 10 minutes before arriving — a warm engine helps the test run properly.
You don’t need to bring anything specific for the test itself. If your registration renewal is also due and you’d like to handle both in the same visit, have your renewal notice with you if you received one. It speeds up the registration process, but isn’t required.
When your vehicle passes, your result is submitted electronically to the Nevada DMV. If your registration is due, you can renew it at the same hut. Your renewal sticker mails directly to your address on file from the DMV. See registration renewal at Blue Diamond & Decatur for the full process.
