Out-of-State Registration Facts
Out-of-State Vehicle Registration at Decatur and Cactus
Smog Busters can submit many full Nevada registration cases for a car from another state. Your papers must fit Nevada rules. You must also have Nevada auto insurance. An out-of-state policy will not work.
The papers depend on your case. A new resident may use a valid out-of-state registration or a title in their name. Bring both if you have them. We may also need the car, its current odometer reading, and a VIN check.

How Out-of-State Registration Works
Bring the Car and Papers
Bring Nevada insurance, your out-of-state plates, and the vehicle papers that fit your case. Bring the car when needed.
Complete Needed Checks
We review the papers. We do the smog test only if Nevada requires it. We check the odometer or VIN when needed.
Submit the DMV Work
If we can handle your case, we submit it to Nevada DMV. The state then handles its part of the work.

What to Bring for Nevada Registration
- Nevada insurance proof. Out-of-state insurance is not accepted.
- Your vehicle papers. Based on the case, a new resident may use a valid out-of-state registration or a title in their name. Bring both if you have them.
- Your out-of-state plates. Bring the plates if you still have them.
- Your vehicle. Bring it when the case needs a smog test, odometer reading, or VIN check.
- Any papers tied to your case. This can include lien or name change papers.
- A signed Nevada registration form, if the state calls for it. Nevada may ask for a Vehicle Registration Application (VP 222) when someone else registers for the owner. Not every case needs this form.
Your list depends on the car and your case.
