What the 48-Hour Service Is
Most Nevada DMV paperwork takes 7 to 10 business days to come back. When you bring us a registration renewal, a title transfer, a plate replacement, or a new registration, we submit the paperwork to the state and wait on the DMV to process it. Once it comes back, we call you to pick it up. For most people that timing is fine.
Sometimes it isn’t. Maybe your registration is expired and you need to drive tomorrow. Maybe you bought a vehicle and need plates before a trip. Maybe you’re down to the wire on a 30-day new-resident deadline. For those situations we have a 48-hour expedited option.
When you pay the expedited fee, our team physically drives your paperwork to the Nevada DMV office the same business day and stays there until the state processes and releases your documents. In most cases we have everything back the next business day. Weekend submissions may run the full 48 hours because the DMV is closed Saturday and Sunday. We never guarantee next-day, but it almost always lands there.

What the 48-Hour Service Works For
The expedited option speeds up almost any Nevada DMV paperwork we submit on your behalf. Common uses:
- Registration renewal when your tags already expired and you need to drive legally

- Title transfers when you need proof of ownership quickly

A few things don’t get faster with expediting. The smog check itself is already same-day (your result is filed with the state in real time). Temporary moving permits are same-day at the hut. Renewal stickers and personalized plates are mailed by the DMV directly to your home on the DMV’s timeline, not ours.
How It Works at the Hut
Pull up at any Smog Busters hut with your paperwork and your ID.
- We write up the submission same as any standard DMV service (about 15 minutes).
- You pay the $44 expedite fee plus whatever DMV fees apply to your paperwork type.
- We drive to the Nevada DMV office with your documents the same business day.
- We wait for the state to process everything and collect your documents when they’re released.
- We call you when your documents are back at the hut, usually the next business day.
Pickup happens at the same hut where you dropped off. Bring your ID when you come back to collect.
Heads Up About Weekends
The Nevada DMV is closed Saturday and Sunday. If you submit paperwork Friday afternoon and request expedited service, it gets submitted first thing Monday morning when the DMV opens. Your 48-hour clock starts then. That’s when the service may run the full 48 hours instead of landing next business day.
If you have a hard deadline over a weekend and can’t drive legally, walk in a few days earlier OR grab a temporary moving permit to stay legal while we expedite.
Smog Check Discounts
If the 48-hour paperwork we’re running for you includes a smog check, your standard smog discounts still apply.
Discounts stack up to $6 off. The $44 expedited fee is separate from the smog discount.
Why Smog Busters Instead of the DMV
You can go to any Nevada DMV office yourself and hand in your paperwork. The state will still need 7 to 10 business days to process it unless you pay to expedite. The DMV does offer its own expedite fees. Lines at the DMV are long, hours are limited, and you’ll still be driving back a week later to pick up whatever the state mails or releases.
