Renew Your Nevada Registration
Done in 15 Minutes. Legal to Drive Now.
Registration renewal in Las Vegas does not have to mean a full day at the DMV. Pull up to any of our 32 Smog Busters huts, and we process your renewal right there through the same system the state uses. Your renewal is instant. You are legal to drive the moment you leave. The registration sticker comes in the mail from the DMV in 5 to 7 business days. Most vehicles need a smog check at renewal, and we do that in the same visit. About 15 minutes from start to finish.
How Registration Renewal Works in Las Vegas

Registration renewal in Las Vegas at Smog Busters is not like going to the DMV. There is no line, no ticket, and no waiting room. You pull up to the hut, hand us your information, and we process the renewal through our analyzer. The renewal goes through instantly.
Here is the important part: you are legal to drive the second you leave. The renewal is processed and recorded in the DMV system right there at the hut. Your registration sticker is mailed by the DMV to the address on your registration, and it usually arrives in 5 to 7 business days.
Most vehicles need a passing smog check before the renewal can go through. We handle both at the same visit. The smog test takes about 15 minutes, and the renewal processes right after. One stop, one visit, done.
You do not even need your renewal notice from the DMV. We look up your account by the VIN number on your vehicle’s door placard. If you have the notice, great. If you lost it or never got it, that is fine too.
What to Bring
Registration renewal is the simplest DMV service we offer. Here is what you need:
- Your vehicle. It needs to be at the hut so we can run the smog check (if required) and read the VIN from the door placard.
- Payment for the $10 service fee and any DMV fees owed. The $10 is our service fee. DMV fees vary based on your vehicle type and registration period.
- Current Nevada auto insurance. The DMV requires active Nevada insurance on file. Out-of-state policies are not accepted.
Smog Check and Renewal in One Visit

Most vehicles in Clark County need a smog check before the registration can renew. Nevada requires it every year for most cars and trucks. The good news is that we are an emissions testing station and an authorized third-party DMV services provider, so we do both at the same place.
Here is how the visit goes:
- Pull up to the hut. No appointment needed. Walk-ins are always welcome.
- Smog check (about 15 minutes). We run the emissions test on your vehicle. If it passes, we move straight to the renewal.
- Renewal processing (a few minutes). We process the registration through the analyzer. The renewal is instant in the DMV system.
- Drive away legal. You are good to go. The sticker comes in the mail.
If your vehicle is exempt from smog testing (brand new, electric, or certain model years), we skip the smog step and go straight to the renewal. Either way, the whole visit is quick.
When Will I Get My Sticker?
After we process your renewal, the DMV mails your new registration sticker to the address on file. There are two options:
- Standard mail: The sticker arrives in 5 to 7 business days. This is the default and there is no extra charge beyond the $10 service fee and DMV fees.
- 48-Hour Expedited: Need it faster? For $44 plus DMV fees, our team personally drives to the DMV and retrieves your registration tags. This is almost always next business day. Weekend submissions may take the full 48 hours.
With standard mail, you are still legal to drive while you wait for the sticker. The renewal is already processed in the system. If you get pulled over, the officer can verify your registration is current.
Expired Registration? Here Is What to Do
If your registration has lapsed, you can still come in and renew. But there are a few things to know:
- Late fees apply. The DMV charges penalties when registration is past due. The longer it has been expired, the higher the fees.
- Driving with expired registration is risky. You can be ticketed for expired tags. If your registration has been expired for a while, you may need a temporary moving permit to legally drive the vehicle to the hut for renewal.
- Expired over 18 months? If your registration has been expired for more than 18 months, the Nevada DMV may require you to go through the full new registration process instead of a simple renewal.
The best move is to come in as soon as you realize it is expired. The sooner you handle your registration renewal in Las Vegas, the lower the late fees. We process the renewal the same way regardless of how late it is, as long as it qualifies for renewal.
